Barbara E. Anderson, 96, of Midland, died early Friday morning, May 13, 2016, at Stratford Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Midland. She was born August 26, 1919, in Kalamazoo, daughter of the late James and Edna (Wight) Buswell. Barbara attended high school in Kalamazoo and later attended Western Michigan University. After her marriage to Clare Clinton Anderson in Texas the couple moved to the Midland area in 1956. Barbara, now in her early forties, made the transition from homemaker to student by enrolling at Central Michigan University where she not only received her B.A. degree but later went on to receive her Master’s Degree. She was a teacher with the Meridian Public School System for many years before her retirement and later became a substitute teacher with the Midland Public System. Barbara was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Midland for over sixty years. Her husband Clare predeceased her October 13, 1985. In addition to her family, her enjoyments included, sewing, crocheting and in her early years, making pheasant hats.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, Clare Clinton “Skip” and Mariworth Anderson of Midland; Keith Anderson and his special friend, Tracey Blasdell of Essexville; and Craig and Saralee Anderson of Midland; ten grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Nancy Kravko and her husband Richard of Georgia. Besides her parents and her husband, Barbara was predeceased by her daughter, Susan Anderson, one brother, Wallace Buswell and her sister, Ardith Hollander.
Cremation has taken place and a service to honor her life will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016, from the First Baptist Church, 915 E. Sugnet Road Midland. Reverend Lara Heise will officiate. Barbara’s family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service.
