Miss Frances Meason passes away, aged 98

Miss Frances A. Meason, aged 98 years, died Saturday evening, Dec. 20, 1924 at her home on East Church street. She was a daughter of Colonel Isaac Meason Jr. and Mary Butler Meason, and was born in New Haven, Fayette county on July 26, 1826. Her father was a lawyer practicing in Pittsburgh but residing in New Haven and on the death of his father, Colonel Isaac Meason Sr., inheriting the Mt. Braddock estate in Dunbar township, he removed the family there where he spent the remainder of his life. Mr. Braddock farms embraced many hundreds of acres upon which the Measons conducted many activities, including some of the earliest iron foundries in Fayette county.
When Colonel Meason died his widow removed with her family to Uniontown where Miss Frances Meason, the survivor, has since lived, her home for the past 86 years being the house on East Church street where she died.
In a manner befitting her honorable ancestry Miss Meason lived her life here, meeting every duty and responsibility in a kindly and cheerful spirit and with her own gentle dignity. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal church where she was a constant attendant throughout her long life and until her years no longer permitted.
She leaves two nieces, Mrs. Alexander D. Ewing and Mrs. Mary M. Henry of Uniontown and two grandnieces, Miss Florence Trevor of Parkersburg, W. Va., and Mrs. Gertrude Sowers McCalmont, of Boston, Mass.
Funeral services will be held from the late residence Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. Donald Kent Johnston, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
