Born in Pennsylvania, he worked as a pipe fitter in the steel mills of West Virginia. This is where he and his wife raised their sons during the great depression. His oldest son served in the Navy during WWII and was stationed in NAS Jax. Pap retired from the steel mills in West Virginia and relocated his family to the Jacksonville, Florida area in the early 1950s.
