Gene Paul Skaggs age 68, of Clarksville, passed away Friday, August 2, 2012.

Gene Paul was born May 16, 1944, in Clarksville the son of A.G. and Frances Skaggs. He was a life long resident of Red River County. He passed from this life at Dubuis Hospital in Paris of a broken heart. He was too kind to survive any longer in this cruel world. Now he feels good and is happy with his Lord and Savior. "To be absent from the body is to be present with God".

Gene graduated from Clarksville High School in 1962. He married Barbara Rains on December 12, 1964. He was a "coal miner extraordinaire". He loved life, his many, many friends and his family. To know Gene was to love him.

He was preceded in death by his father, A.G. Skaggs. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his mother, Frances Lee Dearborn; his uncle, Mark Lee; his brother, Reagan Skaggs and wife Regine; his sister, Donna and husband Harold Griffin; his nephew, Reagan Skaggs, Jr. and wife Irma; his niece Leigh Annis and husband Randy Kennedy; his niece, Tracy Townes MacKenzie, 4 grand nieces, 1 grand nephew, and 1 great grand nephew, and a host of in-laws.

Graveside services are set for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2012, at Stones Chapel Cemetery with Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Solon King, David Elmore, Audie Starky, Doyle Ryan, Boyd Hurt, Danny McIntire.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Hurt, Dewayne Benson, Val Varley, Paul Allen, Bob Bryan, Glen Mitchell, Mike Durham, Cheryl O'Brian.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 4 to 6 at Clarksville Funeral Home.
