MATTIE VIOLA HUX

On August 25, 2010, Mattie Viola Hux, 89, of West Monroe was ushered into heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Viola, Mama, Nana, Grandma and Grandma Great as she was referred to by her friends and family was born in Choudrant, LA to John and Nola Pilcher on February 9, 1921. She was raised in Chatham, LA and later resided in West Monroe for the last 58 years. She retired from LSU Extension Service of West Monroe. Viola loved life and people and never met a stranger. She loved her family and was in her element when she was surrounded by those she loved. Viola loved playing card games with her friends at Claiborne Creek Apartments. She loved to travel and she worked hard most of her life. Everyone who knew her loved her and knew she was a special lady. She never complained and was such an angel to so many people. She loved spending time with the Lord and learning of his ways. She spent 35 years at McClendon Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery, taught, and sang in the choir. She still has many loving friends there as well as at the Fish Net Worship Center where she's been a faithful member the last few years. She loved her pastors very much, Sandra and Russell Rhodes of the Fish Net, and Rick Crandall of McClendon. She also said that the Bible teachings of Gloria and Kenneth Copeland changed her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nola Pilcher, her brothers Paul Pilcher and Falner Pilcher, her sister Eunice Walsworth, and step-grandchild Jennifer Weems.

Survivors include her children, son Eddie Hux and wife Diana, daughter and best friend Joan Williams and husband Grady, her precious grandchildren, Shane Dison of West Monroe, Louisiana, Casey Dison of Florence, Arizona, Nikki Creighton and husband David of Tampa, Florida, Danena Holman of West Monroe, D.J. Hux and wife Danielle of Seattle, Washington, five great grandchildren and one on the way and several nieces. Her extended family includes two step-granddaughters Holly Swayze, Rhonda Garcia, one step-grandson Kevin Weems, and 16 step great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Shane Dison, Casey Dison, D.J. Hux, Charles "Bubba" Guiterrez, Kevin Schweinefus, and Robby Hart.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home on N. 7th Street, West Monroe.
