Obituary
Mrs. Hosmer died at 12:20 Monday afternoon in the House of the Good Samaritan, where she had been a patient since Saturday. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. Although in declining health for years, Mrs. Hosmer had been confined to her bed only since Saturday.
Surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. Joseph J. (Mary Elizabeth) Burns, 528 Franklin street, former teacher of social studies at South Junior High school; a granddaughter, Mary Editha Burns, city; a sister, Miss Ella F. Gates, city; a brother, J. Samuel Gates, city, and nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Hosmer was born June 7, 1875, on a farm in the town of Orleans, near Lafargeville, a daughter of Roswell and Eliza Zeran Gates. Her father, a hotel proprietor, once operated the Orleans house in Lafargeville. She spent the early part of her life on the farm and also lived in the Orleans house when her father ran the hotel. Her education was received in the schools of that section
On June 30, 1903, she was married to Charles C. Hosmer of Lafargeville, then located in Watertown as undersheriff of Jefferson county. The wedding ceremony was performed at Lafargeville by Rev. Mr. Hoffman of St. Paul's Episcopal church of that village.
Funeral services for Mrs. Editha Lavina Gates Hosmer, 69, widow of former Sherfiff Charles C. Hosmer, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 at the home of her sister, Miss Ella F. Gates, 528 Franklin street, with whom she lived. ...
Rev. George A. Workman, rector of the Church of the Redeemer, will officiate. Burial will be made in the Hosmer family plot in Grove cemetery at Lafargeville.
