ALBANY--Robert Aaron Bergdoll, age 88, a lifelong resident of Albany, passed from this world at his home on Thursday, February 17, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 18, 1922 at the family farm near Albany to Claude and Bertha (Bales) Bergdoll, the second youngest of six children. Bob, as he was known, graduated from Albany High School in 1940. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country during World War II.

Upon his return he met and married Patricia Ann Barlow on June 17, 1950. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2010.

Bob was employed at Indiana Steel and Wire (later known as General Cable) and retired after serving as the company's Traffic Director for 40 years.

Bob was a 60+ year member of the Albany American Legion Post 167 and served as the organization's financial officer for 45 years. He also was a member of the Moose Lodge. After retirement, he loved gardening at his childhood family farm; fishing with his son, grandson, and friends; watching birds and squirrels and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; a son; a daughter;

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold Bergdoll and Claude Bergdoll, Jr.; sisters, Helen Bullock, Mary Chick, and Lula Kesler.

Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany. A funeral service to celebrate Bob's life will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Sharon Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military services provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
