He was born in Meadow, Utah, to George Labrum Bushnell and Iva Bell Swallow Bushnell. He was a gentle and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather. He was married to Stella Louise Haise Bushnell for more than 55 years and was devoted to her until his last breath.

He attended college in Logan and Salt Lake City, Utah, and served in the U.S. Army as a PFC during World War II. He was wounded March 13, 1945, just a few days after his unit crossed the Remagen Bridge over the Rhine. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. In November 1945, he was convalescing and teaching art and ceramics at the convalescent hospital in Campo, Calif., when he met Stella Haise Lees, who was teaching English and radio speech there. They were married Jan. 12, 1946. A daughter, Pamela Louise, was born Dec. 23, 1946.

Dean was a talented artist, musician, vocalist and ballroom dancer. He was a postal carrier for 31 years in El Cajon, Calif., and Fayetteville. He had been a cattle and poultry rancher and loved animals so that he made every one into a pet. He was a loving and generous man, valued by his community and church. He held several positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints during his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife and by three brothers and one sister.

He was 80 when he passed away at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR. I have a copy of his obit.
