Jessie R. York, 72, of Crossville, passed away Nov. 26, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 30 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., with burial in Wolf River Cemetery in Pall Mall, TN. Homer York officiated.
Mr. York was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Pall Mall, the son of Albert and Minnie Ellen Crouch York.
He was a retired military serviceman, having served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. He served during the Vietnam War, earning the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medal, and earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal in Korea. He
was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jerry Dunaway; sons, James York, David York, Johnny York and Dwayne York; sisters, Flossie Earls and Alberta Choate; brothers, Jay York and Noble York; and grandchildren, Jessica York, Tiffany York, Joshua York, Dakotah York, Crystal York, Teneaka York and Jennifer Ruebusch.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill York and Donald York; and sisters, Viola York and Mary Lane Upchurch.
An Honor Guard detail from Fort Campbell, KY served as pallbearers, and presented the flag, gave a 21-gun salute and played "Taps." Members of the DAV were also in attendance.
