E. C. Jewell's Barred Plymouth Rock added to their reputation at the state poultry show at Holdredge last week. He had the champion cockerel among 1600 birds and took ten first prizes besides. Mr. Jewell sold one cockerel for $100.

EARL C. JEWELL
Earl C. Jewell was born on July 29, 1886, the son of Martha and George W. Jewell and passed away April 29, 1956, at the age of 69 years and 9 months. He lived all of his life in the DeWitt vicinity. On November 21, 1907 he was united in marriage to Clara Foster. Two daughters blessed this union, Vivian Hubka of Beatrice and Lucille who passed away October, 1828. His older brother William also preceded him in death. His life's main occupation was farming and the raising of Barred Rock Chickens. He became famous the world over for his prize Barred Rocks and won many trophies at poultry shows throughout the nation. He was a member and held office in the Nebraska Poultry Association for many years. He carried on his farming and poultry raising until his health failed a few years ago. Mr. Jewell was affiliated with the O.E.S. and Masonic lodges. Those to mourn his loss are his beloved wife, Clara, daughter, Vivian, grandaughters, Julie and Lettie; grandson, Ladd; one sister Bertha McJunkin; four nieces and one nephew.

Earl Jewell Passes On To Reward On Sunday
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Earl C. Jewell, who passed away at his home near DeWitt on Sunday evening. He had suffered a heart attack a short time ago and seemingly was getting along quite well. Mr. Jewell was born at DeWitt on July 29, 1886 and passed away at the age of 69 years and 9 months. He is survived by his wife, Clara, one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Hubka of Beatrice, one sister, Mrs. Bertha McJunkin, 2 grandchildren, 4 nieces and 1 nephew. One daughter, Lucille preceded him in death. Services were held from the Methodist Church at 2 o'clock with burial at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. George Evans was in charge of the service.
