Bio

I am the newest and youngest member of the Cemetery Board for Elm River Township, Wayne County, Illinois. We manage the Laird (106511), Brown (104903), Barth (104644), Fitch (105669) and Evangelical aka German (105601) Cemeteries.

I am comprising plans to do much needed survey and cleaning work to include adding missing photos and GPS info here for these cemeteries. However, please note, that unfortunately the person who was originally responsible for keeping the records for these cemeteries passed away some time ago without writing much of anything down. Also, the township budget is extremely limited and goes toward the upkeep of the grounds and assisting burials. Anything above that I am doing on a volunteer basis.

I have always enjoyed walking old cemeteries and I am a believer in remembering history and telling the story of someone's life . As such, I am not a collector of names and am happy to contribute to and help others to the best of my ability and time available.

My interest in genealogy began in the late 1980s as a high school student. Today, as a homeschooling Mom to a middle schooler, I have become more invested in the historical aspects of genealogy and I am currently working toward obtaining my certification.

I am a paid member of ancestry.com and manage 8 ancestryDNA tests. I also manage tests on GEDmatch.com, MyHeritage.com and FamilyTreeDNA.com where I am a member of several Y-DNA and mtDNA projects.

I am a contributor to FamilySearch.org and attend their annual virtual RootsTech conference, as well as, a G2G contributor to WikiTree.com, pre-1700 certified and a Germany project member.
My username across all platforms is: SRM1210

My primary areas of interest are Wayne County, Illinois, Fayette County, Iowa, Madison County, North Carolina and Greene County, Tennessee.

My maternal family are part of America's founding story and have been in Wayne County since pre-Illinois Statehood and I'm proud to say many of us still live there today.

My husband's family are also a part of America's founding story and are original settlers of Southern Appalachia to include first families of Tennessee.

My paternal family are part of America's immigrant story with my great-grandparents being 1st generation Americans that were born to German immigrant parents in Iowa. And, I am equally as proud to say many of them still live and farm there today.
