Bio
Everyone here has their niche, mine is transcriptions and epitaphs.
If you have better photos of any of the memorials please feel free to post them - and let me know and I will remove mine. You may use my photos with credit. If you have a correction/edit please let me know.
Inscriptions - I typically don't use all upper case for the inscriptions even when that is how the stone appears. I see that as a product of the font choice that is dependent on the stone material. Some materials do not work well with thinner lettering so the choice is not based on upper or lower case choice but what works best for the stone.
How to take Better Photos - Working with the sun will produce the best result for a good photo. Because of the stone placement typically front of the stones are best lit by the sun in the morning. To get the old white stone lettering or raised lettering clearer waiting for the sun to come from the side is best and will make the letters pop by creating a shadow effect. Of course having the sunlight on the back of the stone for the photo is typically done in the afternoon. As for the sides the left is good around noon and the right side, or the darkest side is best with a cloudy day to reduce the silhouette from the sun.
In some cemeteries or sometimes in the same cemetery stones are oriented differently so you need to adjust the timing for the best photo.
I would like to acknowledge the hard work of those who have gone before and those who will follow after. I wish you all good luck in finding your family's history and adding another piece to the puzzle.
