I am a retired Gerontologist, and live in Austin, TX with my family. I became interested in and joined this as a result of searching for more information about my maternal grandfather, Walter D. McKinney. He Served with 36th Infantry Division, 141st Infantry Regiment (the "Lost Battalion") and was killed in action at Biffontaine, Departement des Vosges, Lorraine, France on October 27, 1944. In March, 2018, I was fortunate to visit the U.S. Military Cemetery in Epinal, France, where my grandfather is buried, to pay respects. This was a very meaningful and emotional experience for me, since I never got to meet my grandfather (I was born ten years after his death). I hope to learn more about what happened to him and his regiment, and share this with other family members who are interested in our family history.
