American Legion Cemetery, Big Stone Gap, Wise County, Virginia, USA. Cemetery notes and/or description:Heading north from Lee County on Hwy 23/ Orby Cantrell Hwy take the second Big Stone Gap, Exit 2 (State Route 610/Powell Valley Rd). At the end of the ramp turn right and head east towards East Stone Gap and Powell Valley. Go 1.8 miles on State Route 610/Powell Valley Road and you will see the white stone entrance for American Legion Cemetery. You will also see the sign for the Legion Memorial United Methodist Church that is just inside the cemetery entrance.The cemetery surrounds the Legion Memorial United Methodist Church. The sign at the top of the column on the left of the entrance reads: "American Legion Cemetery, Henry N. Tate, Post No. 70" and the sign at the top of the column on right reads: "Presented To Town Of Appalachia VA, -1935-".There is a small mausoleum in the middle of the cemetery, which is considered Section 3 of the cemetery.
