Add PhotosThis land was owned by my GG-Grand Parents, Henry and Cassandra (Vest) Byas/Bias. They are both buried on the property as well as their youngest son, Joseph 'Joel' Bias.
After the death of Henry and Cassandra the property was maintained by my great grandfather, Lindsey Franklin Bias and Lindsey in turn passed on the responsibility to his son, Alexander 'Alec' Bias.
When Uncle Alec retired, he had a number of the family members meet him at the property to walk to the old Bias Cabin and the graves at the top of the property. As Uncle Alec was retiring he no longer could afford to maintain the property taxes as he had all of his working career. He was trying to establish a family consortium to pay the property taxes for the future.
Unfortunately everyone had excuses as to why they would or could not participate.....and a few years later the property was auctioned off for unpaid taxes. What a shame!
I have walked to the graves at 2 different times in my life, once with Uncle Alec Bias & My dad and again in 2001. In 2001 I took some cuttings from the iris planted on the graves and when they bloom each May/June, I know that Henry and Cassandra's graves are covered with these pale Lavander Iris.
