Tilmer Blackberg, 87, formerly of Strandquist, died Wednesday, December 10, 1997 at the Karlstad Nursing Center.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 13 at the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle with Reverend J. L. Riveness officiating. Joyce Jorgenson was the organist, and vocal music was provided by Wendall and Joyce Jorgenson. Casketbearers were Dale Carlson, Edward Carlson, Donald Larson, Robert Carlson, Lyle Blackberg and Arnold Larson. Burial was at Opdahl Cemetery in New Maine township of Marshall County. The Green Funeral Home of Thief River Falls was in charge of the arrangements.

Tilmer Fredolph Blackberg was born October 31, 1910 in Foldahl township of Marshall County, the son of Carl and Amanda (Halvorson) Blackberg. He was baptized in the Christian faith. When Tilmer was five years old his family moved to New Maine township where he attended school in District 100. He entered the Army on July 28, 1942 and served some of that time in Germany during World War II. He was discharged on November 21, 1945. He returned to farm the family farm. For the past few weeks he was a resident of the Karlstad Nursing Center.

Tilmer was a member of the Otto Knutson American Legion Post of Newfolden.

He is survived by one brother, Elmer Blackberg of Karlstad; one sister-in-law, Bertha Blackberg of Karlstad; and several nieces and nephews.

Tilmer was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Victor Blackberg, Willie Blackberg and Hjalmer Blackberg; and four sisters, Freida Carlson, Hilma Carlson, Selma Egge and one sister in infancy.
