Hilma Carlson
Hilma M. Carlson passed away at the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center on Monday July 19, 1993 at the age of 92 years, 9 months, and 11 days.
Hilma Mathilda Carlson, the daughter of the late Carl and Amanda (Halvorson) Blackberg, was born October 8, 1900 in West Valley Township, Marshall County near Strandquist, MN. She attended school and grew to womanhood in the Strandquist community.
On April 5, 1927, she was united in marriage to Otto S. Carlson at Warren, MN. The couple lived and farmed in Wright Township, Marshall County, for many years. She was an active member of the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle for many years, serving as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the Missionary Circle. Otto passed away September 27, 1980. She resided at Oakwood Homes in Karlstad for 13 years, and for the past year, at the Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center.
Surviving are son, E.; two grandchildren, R. and L.; three brothers, E. and H., both of Karlstad, and T., Strandquist, in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24, 2 p.m., at the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle. Pastor Curt Johnson and Rev. John A. Riveness officiated. Organist was D. Boen. Vocalists were V. Carlson, L. Thun, L. Haugen, D. Boen, and Mr. and Mrs. I. Ingebrigtsen.
Interment was in Mission Cemetery at Strandquist. Honorary bearers were F. Grochowski, A. and W. Larson, C. Johnson, C. Peterson, E. and E. Strandquist. Casket bearers were D., M. and D. Carlson, L. Backberg, B. Lofstrom and B. Westman.
Arrangements were with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad.

Otto & Hilma Carlson's grave is located behind a tree in the cemetery. It is assumed their adopted baby, Ione Janet Hamberg Carlson, who died age age 3 from falling into scalding water, is in an unmarked grave close to them. (2011)
