ROY A. SHEPHERD, 78, of Memphis, retired self-employed wholesale produce dealer, died Monday at Kirby Pines Manor. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in Memorial Park. He attended Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College) and University of Pennsylvania, was a charter member of Memphis Chapter of Sigma Nu, a World War II Army veteran who received the Purple Heart, a member of Gideons for more than 40 years and First Evangelical Church, where he served as elder and deacon. Mr. Shepherd, the husband of Martha Jane Shepherd, also leaves a daughter, Pamela Jane Waldron of Cranbury, N.J.; a brother, Lt. Col. Thomas J. Shepherd (USAF, ret.) of Collierville, and two grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Gideons or a charity of the donor's choice.
