Leo attended St. John School and graduated from College High School in 1941. After high school he worked for H.C. Price Company, a pipe coating and construction firm headquartered in Bartlesville. He was inducted into the Army in February, 1943. He was stationed as a court reporter at Camp Ellis, Illinois, from May, 1943, until August, 1945, then he was a court and board reporter at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. (stationed at Fort Meyer, Virginia) until March, 1946. His mother often said that it was his ability to type that kept him out of combat.
After his time in the service, Leo returned to the Price Company. He worked in plant administration and management as everything from stenographer and warehouse clerk to Vice-President of Administration for Price International, Inc. He retired in 1983.
While still in the Army, Leo married Ruth Alleyne Smith of Dewey on August 11, 1945. Ruth, born August 1, 1919, was the daughter of Melvin F. and Joanna Fair Smith. Their first daughter was born in Bartlesville, and the family later moved to Gretna, Louisiana when Leo was transferred to New Orleans. Ruth was a housewife and reared their two daughters until she passed away March 15, 1976, in New Orleans. She is buried in Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna.
After Ruth's death, Leo was transferred back to Bartlesville briefly, but returned to New Orleans.
On May 28, 1988, Leo married Jessie Joyce DiCorte Beechler, a widowed New Orleans native, who was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Kavanaugh DiCorte. Jessie was a nurse and housewife who had worked as the Director of Archives for the Archdiocese of New Orleans for 10 years.
