Cornelia was the daughter of Commodore Thomas Truxtun of Revolutionary war fame and his wife Mary Fundran. Cornelia was born March 28, 1803 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the eleventh of twelve know children.

On March 28, 1822 - Cornelia's nineteenth birthday, she married Dr. Joseph Guerard Nancrede. The couple had no children of their own. However, they adopted their nephew, the oldest son of Cornelia's younger sister Gertrude Parker Truxtun and John Hopkins Houston. Born Samuel Houston, he became known as Samuel Joseph Guerard Nancrede.

Cornelia preceded her husband in death. Her death in 1848 was a blow from which her husband, Dr. Joseph Guerard Nancrede, was said to have never recovered.

Public Ledger, Phila., of Thurs 30 Nov 1848: Died: On Wednesday 29th inst., Cornelia, wife of Dr. Joseph G. Nancrede. The male friends of the family are respectively invited to attend her funeral from the residence of her husband, Southeast corner of Tenth and Walnut sts., on Saturday next at 10 o'clock A.M., without further notice.
