Stayner Richards, [bishop,] counselor in the Granite Stake presidency, Utah, from 1928 to 1930+, [Stake President, and Assistant to the Twelve] was a son of Stephen L. Richards and Emma Louise Stayner. He was a grandson of Willard Richards.
Elder Richards was baptized Feb. 5, 1898 at Salt Lake City, Utah. He was ordained an Elder and filled a mission to Great Britain in 1908-1910. He was ordained a High Priest Feb. 24, 1914, by George F. Richards, and sustained as Bishop of the Highland Park Ward Dec. 3, 1916. He presided over the ward till 1928, when he was called to serve as second counselor in the Stake presidency. [Later he was called as Stake President. From 1950 to 1952 he served as President of the British Mission. One of his assignments while serving as the Mission President was to seek land for the proposed London Temple. All of these helped prepare him to serve as a General Authority. It was while he was still serving as Mission President of the British Mission that that call came October 6, 1951 to be sustained as an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He served the Lord and the Twelve until his death.
