Rhoda Jackson Thomas' headstone says she died in 1843. She and Jesse Thomas had nine children mostly spaced one to two years apart. Their last child together would have been John, born in April 1846. Jesse's next child, George, was with Sallie Crawford. There is a four year space between John (1846) and George (1850) so the presumption is that Rhoda died about 1846 or shortly after; Jesse and Sallie then married and had their first child in 1850.
The headstones in this family cemetery were hand made and appear to have been inscribed with a stick or some other primitive tool and were probably not made until the late 1880's when Jesse Thomas, Jr. died. By then the death date of Rhoda had been forgotten as had Sallie's since there is no death date on Sallie's stone.
