J. T. Ragan died at his residence near Carters Creek Sunday morning at four o'clock. He had been ill for a long time. Mr. Ragan was 75 years old, and is survived by one brother, three sisters, his wife, and several children. The children are: George Ragan, of Columbia; J.W. Ragan, of Nashville; L. B. Ragan of Paducah, Ky.; Mrs. E. V. Ritter, of Red Rock, Ariz.; Mrs. F. B. Campbell, of Nashville; Mrs. J. D. Harmon, Mrs. J. R. Martin and Mrs. Morrow Robinson. The funeral services were conducted at the residence by Rev. M. E. Alford, pastor of the Methodist church at Thompson's Station, and the burial was in Rose Hill cemetery Monday.

Mr. Ragan was one of the most prominent and best known farmers of the Carers [sic, Carter's] Creek valley section of the county, and was a man of considerable property. The deceased was long a member of the Methodist church. -- Columbia Herald, 31 March 1911.
