Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. A native of Ireland, he received the award for his actions on September 28, 1857 at Bolundshahr, British India while serving a private in the 9th Lancers of the British Army. Born in Nengah, County Tipperary, Ireland, the exact date of his birth is unknown. His Victoria Cross citation reads: "For having, at Bolundshahur, on the 28th of September, 1857, gone to the support of Lieutenant Blair, who had been severely wounded, and, with a few other men, brought that officer in safety through a large body of the enemy's cavalry." He died on Bride Street, Dublin, Ireland around the age of 56.
