OCTOBER 2014 DNA UPDATE FROM TIM PHIPPS
Turns out that all 67 Y-DNA markers tested for Samuel Phipps are an exact match to my Y-DNA markers and to four others who descend from Joshua Phipps (1745-1835) of Chester County, PA.
Without doubt, Samuel's Phipps line shares the same genetic roots as the Phipps of Chester Co., PA.

Ron's Y-DNA markers (Benjamin), in contrast, matches on 64 of 67 markers, and has only a single mutation on each of the other 3 markers (a genetic distance of 3).
This close match also suggests a genetic link between Ron's Phipps line and these others.

Now, if Isaiah Phipps (ca 1769-1857) and Benjamin Phipps (ca 1762-1838) were brothers, it would appear that all 3 of Ron's mutations occurred between Ron and Benjamin (7 total generations).
The mutations over 7 generations seems a bit high, but not impossible. It leads me to want to see two things.

1) What documented source evidence do we have that clearly records Isaiah and Benjamin as being brothers?

2) Do we have one or two more male Phipps descendants of Benjamin who could be tested? I would be extremely curious to see if the markers for these other descendants have as many or less mutations than we see with Ron's test results.

Eventually, it would be awesome to see test results from 2 or more male Phipps descendants for each of the other seven supposed Phipps brothers of Grayson Co, VA / Ashe & Guilford Co's, NC.

NOTES 2016 FROM TIM PHIPPS
I see with the couple matches to the known descendants of Samuel and his son Jesse that their is an extremely close match with a 67-marker test listed under the name of Robert M
I would assume that this is the test Bob had done on the Phipps individual.
This gives us three individuals who descend from Samuel and Jesse, who all closely match each other.
We still would love to have a male Phipps descendant of one of Samuel's other sons to test to see if he matches the descendants of Jesse.
If another such descendant tested and matched the descendants of Jesse, then this would support Steven's research which suggests that Samuel Phipps of Ashe County, NC, is descended from another line of Phipps and not genetically related (along paternal Phipps lines) with the Phipps of Grayson County, VA, whose tested descendants are not a match to the descendants of Samuel and his son Jesse.
