Fusaye "Junne" Hirai, 86, a longtime resident of the Nyssa community lately of Forest Grove died Monday afternoon, September 9, 2013 at the Forest Grove Rehabilitation and Care Center in Forest Grove, OR.

Junne was born on June 11, 1927 in Eatonville, WA. She was the youngest of three children born to Jisaburo ad Kiku Koike. She was raised in Eatonville, WA but also spent time visiting relatives in Japan . When WWII broke out Junne was held in Japan with her mother and sister until the end of the war and lived in Kyoto, Japan.

She met her future husband, George Hirai, while he was deployed with the U.S.8thArmy in 1945 with theFukui Military Government in Fukui, Japan. Junne worked as a secretary for the U.S. Army in Fukui, Japan and when George returned to Oregon, they soon began corresponding with each other and were married on February 8, 1952 in Ontario, OR. They made their home outside of Adrian, OR and moved to Nyssa, OR in 1960. George died September 3, 1986 and Junne continued to live in Nyssa until 2005 when she moved to Hillsboro to be closer to her daughters.

Junne was a devoted and loving mother to her four children and husband. She was also a farmer's wife and had helped with the daily routines around the farm. Junne was also a librarian secretary for Nyssa Public School Library a position she had held for several years. She enjoyed her family and gatherings that brought them all together. She was an avid homemaker and enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was involved with the Idaho-Oregon Buddhist Temple and would volunteer with the ladies group and sing in the choir. George and Junne loved to take road trips and visit family and friends. Most recently Junne and her daughters traveled to Japan to reunite with friends and family through military reunions. She is preceded in death by her loving husband and two siblings. She is survived by her four children; Mark and Dr. Debbie Cook-Hirai both of Las Vegas, NV, Lynn Stuart of Littleton, CO, Gail Hirai-Stinnett and Ron Stinnett both of Hillsboro, OR and Dina and Michael Ahten of Eugene, OR and three grandchildren.
