Ida Gertrude Prentiss was born Nov 22,1873 to John Nicholas Prentiss and Lucinda Clementine Wray in Franklin Co Missouri. Ida spent most of her childhood living in southern Illinois and Wilson co Tenn for a brief time.
There were happy times but this family had thier share of tradegy. Ida had six siblings Two sisters Martha and Jessie and Four brothers George,Ossie, Henan and Herman. Sadly out of seven children only three lived to be adults Ida, Ossie and Jessie. Ida's Father John Nicolas Prentiss died suddenly at the age of 49 in Nov 1889.
In 1899 Ida married Jake Giles and had her first child Agnes Helen Giles in Sep 1900.. Ida and Jake were divorced and Ida remarried to Presley Lane Davis Aug 15, 1904 in Stoddard Co Missouri. Presley was 25 years older He was 55 and she was 30 at the time of their marriage. Presley had 10 children from a previous marriage but he fathered four more children with Ida Gladys May, Moy Wray, Ina Jewell and Flossie Delina.
Ida was definitely a character she could be funny and sweet but at times she had a harsh side ...she was very fond of little girls and loved to spoil them which her granddaughters loved but her grandsons not so much ... My father often told stories of Granny buying candy and soda for the girls and scooting the boys out the door with a broom... But they all loved Granny she was a jokster at heart and loved teasing and playing pranks on the kids.
Granny suffered a stroke and was paralyzed on one side she was bed bound for quite a few years. She had another stroke on Mar 2 1956 in which she did not survive.
