He was a twin son of Richard and Hannah Spicer Withey and born in England. His twin brother, Edwin Withey died in 1896 and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Skaneateles, Onondaga County, New York.
He came to this country in 1882 with his parents and most of his siblings. He grew up in the Skaneateles area and in 1900, he married Elizabeth Anna Creese in nearby Marcellus at the home of his sister, Rosalie Withey Malcolm. They moved a few miles away to live in Auburn, Cayuga County, N.Y.
They had two children:
Amie Hermione Withey born in Auburn in 1900 and died in Rye, Westchester, N.Y. on Jan.2, 1966.
Henry J. Withey born in Auburn in 1910 and died in Auburn in Nov. 1970.

Elizabeth A. Creese Withey died in Auburn in May, 1937 of a heart seizure.

Henry married Bertha Wasman by 1940, probably in Auburn. She was born in 1878 and died in 1945 in Auburn.
