Fern E. Hofstetter, 89 of Kidron, died Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Shady Lawn Health Care Community following a brief illness.

She was born in Holmes County on August 7, 1919 to the late Aden and Sarah (Hochstetler) Gerber and married Milton Hofstetter on April 12, 1946. He died November 14, 1992.

She had lived all of her life in this area and was a member of the Kidron Mennonite Church.

She is survived by children, Betty (Mike) Prater, Mary Jean (Rod) Arney and Barbara (Glenn) Miller, all of Dalton, Doris (Ken) Smith of Massillon, Irene (Honor) Young of West Salem, Earl (Wilma) Hofstetter of Elida and Harold Hofstetter of Kidron; twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Dennis Gerber of Benton, Orrie Gerber of Millersburg, and David Gerber of Sarasota, FL, Mary Norr of Kidron, and Ruth Troyer of Sugarcreek.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis; brothers John, Titus, Robert and Willis; and sisters Barbara and Dorothy.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at the Kidron Mennonite Church with Pastor Terry Shue officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday from 4-7 PM at the Kidron Mennonite Church or one hour prior to services on Monday. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling the arrangements.
