Willis R. Gerber, age 81, of Canton died Friday evening at his home. He was born on Feb. 17, 1925 in rural Holmes County, Ohio to the late Aden and Sarah (Hostetler) Gerber. Willis resided in Canton most of his life and was employed for 31 years as a railroad car builder for the Norfolk and Western Railroad, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Martin's Creek Mennonite Church of Holmes County. He was preceded in death his wife, Gertrude, in 1999 and by two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his brothers, Dennis Gerber of Benton, OH; Orie Gerber of Millersburg, David and Robert Gerber, both of Sarasota, FL; sisters, Fern Hostetler of Kidron, OH, Dorothy Weaver of Gary, IL, Mary Norr of Kidron and Ruth Troyer of Sugarcreek, OH. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Reed Funeral Home, Canton Chapel, with Chaplain Paul Rudy officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.
