Ca. 1715, He built Barnesfield, a plantation along the Potomac River with a landing called Hooe's Ferry (popular haunt of blockade runners). The plantation was destroyed in 1861 by Federal gun ships. The land was purchased by the government and dedicated as a city recreational park in the 1980's. The Hooe family cemetery was moved to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church.
