He taught in Johnson County and Lawrence County schools for six years. He was connected with the firm of Oppenheimer and Flax of Paintsville, Kentucky for many years and subsequently was a traveling salesman for the Paintsville Grocery Company. He operated a bakery in Paintsville, Kentucky in the early thirties and later owned and operated a farm in Danville, Kentucky. He had made many contributions to the book (THE CHANDLER FAMILY, A History of the Chandler Family of Eastern Kentucky, 1974), in which he is acknowledged by the authors in the FORWARD. He provided generations of family photos and valuable information that will forever be preserved. He passed away before the book was printed.
Sanford and Maude were married in November 1912.
