James Monroe Chandler, 82, died at his home in Manson Friday night after a sudden illness. He had maintained his orchard home there after moving to Wenatchee.

He was born on March 16, 1892, at Chandlerville, Ky. In 1913 he moved to Wenatchee where he was employed in the orchards. He was an Army veteran of World War I serving 1918 to 1919. Following his discharge he married Tena LeRay on Dec. 24, 1919, at Brewster. In 1924 they moved to Manson where he was active in the orchard business until his death.

In 1948 he started Chandler's Summer Resort on Wapato Lake and Chandler's Winter Resort on Roses Lake, which he operated until 1967. He first wife died in 1966 and he married Iva Peters on Sept. 23, 1967, at Wenatchee.

Surviving are his wife, Iva; three sons, Dewey of Yakima, Marion Lynn of Seattle, and Alan of East Wenatchee; two daughters, Virginia Savage, Soap Lake, and Beverly Jackson, Seattle; a sister, Elizabeth Chandler, Decatur, Ill.; four half sisters and one half brother; and 12 grandchildren.
