John J. Lynn, 85, passed away in his sleep at his home in Mountain Top. John suffered from Alzheimer's/Parkinson's dementia.

Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late John F. and Anna Logolia Lynn. He grew up in Pittston on Tedrick Street and graduated from Pittston High School. He married the former Rosemary Miller; and also lived in Suscon.

John was a U.S. Army veteran, a corporal, of the Korean War, Battery C, field artillery battalion and received the Medal of Valor while in Chorwon, North Korea. While under fire, and with total disregard for his own personal welfare, he left the safety of his foxhole, dashing through enemy fire to remove a 6-ton truck loaded with powder charges, fuses, and 8-inch projectiles that was in the line of fire, and close to his comrades. He removed the truck out of the line of fire, which saved the lives of his comrades.

After returning from Korea, John worked in a shoe factory, and attended the GI school to become a bricklayer. He was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Local 5-PA.

After retiring, he moved to Plains Township, Florida, and finally back to Pennsylvania, where he resided in Mountain Top.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Rosemary Miller Lynn; his son, John Jr., from progressive MS; and his sister, Mary Palenski.

Surviving are John's brother Joseph, daughters Debra Wilmarth and Karen Honabach and grandchildren Jessica Lindgren, and Alexander Wilmarth as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.

Interment will be in Pittston City Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
