Opal was predeceased by her husband Bill Newt Smith and sons Herbert Lance Smith and Billy Gene Smith. She is survived by son Ronald Smith of Fortney, Texas; daughter Marty Gassaway of Cabot, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. On 7 June 2003, funeral services were held at Bailey Funeral Home in El Dorado, Union County, Arkansas with interment at Canaan Cemetery.
