Gerald A. Scheffler passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014.

He is survived by his wife Alice K. (Bell) Scheffler; his children Mary Fran (Mike) Klein, Joe (Jeannine) Scheffler, Nettie (Ken) Simonich, Lynne Scheffler, Jim (Kristen) Scheffler, Ginny Scheffler, Deb (Scott) Crowther. His grandchildren; Maxx, Jack (Natalie), Hailey, Drew (Abby), KC, Olivia, Sofia, Brynn, Ava, Logan and Lola. His sister Jeanne also survives.

Gerald A. Scheffler was born on July 28, 1938, peacefully passed away on March 28, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Alice K. (Bell) Scheffler, his loving children, Maryfran and Michael Klein, Joseph and Jeannine Scheffler, Annette and Kenneth Simonich, Jr., Lynne Scheffler, James and Kristen Scheffler, Ginny Scheffler, Debra and Scott Crowther. His joys, his grandchildren Maxx, Jack and Natalie Klein, Hailey, Drew and Abby Scheffler, KC Simonich, Olivia and Sofia Scheffler, Brynn Noonan, Ava, Logan, and Lola Crowther. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanne Ciancinelli; and his in-laws, Tom and Sylvia Bell, Janice Bell, Phyllis and Bob Popek, Patty and Pete Calabrese and Tim and Ann Bell, and many nieces and nephews. He joined his three angels, twin granddaughters and a grandson in heaven. Preceded by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Sullivan) Scheffler and Thomas J. and Angela (Gal Nemcevic) Bell; his siblings, Marita Rohder, Rosemary Raub, and Don Scheffler. Also preceded by two nephews and two great-great nieces. He graduated from St. John the Baptist Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School and Joliet Junior College. Attended Lewis University to become a pilot, but his service to country and family changed his plans. He worked at Sparkie's Gas Station, United Rental, Joliet Foundry, Cornerstones and retired from Commonwealth Edison. He worked hard his whole life to put himself and his seven children through school. His joys, his grandchildren, knew him as a warrior throughout his battle with cancer. He volunteered countless hours at St. Mary Nativity and was past president of St. Mary Nativity School Board and St Joe's Pony Baseball. His children will forever be grateful for the many hours he coached both boys and girls basketball and boys baseball. According to his wishes, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church at 702 N. Broadway, Joliet, IL 60435. Family will receive visitation from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
