Dorothy was born in Yuma, Arizona on March 10, 1915 to Judge Earl A. Freeman and Katherine Rollins Freeman. She enjoyed a happy childhood in Yuma and moved to San Diego in the 1930's.
Dorothy married a career U.S.M.C. aviator, Henry "Hank" Bernard Hamilton, W.O. in 1939. Her beloved Hank was missing in action at Guadalcanal in 1942 and declared dead in 1945. Dorothy raised their young son Jerome "Jerry" alone. Jerry passed away in 1998.
Dorothy enjoyed her career for the U.S. Naval Communication Station retiring in 1972. During retirement her many hobbies included reading, raising orchids, her birthday club and playing bingo.
She is survived by Teresa and husband Woody, and "grandsons" Nicholas and Christopher Topping of San Diego; her sister, Mary Jane Wheeler; niece, Sharon Emory; and nephew, Thomas Wheeler of Wichita Falls, Texas. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her, including her family, birthday club friends, neighbors and her many bingo buddies.
At her request, cremation with burial at sea by the U.S. Navy , no memorial service. Many thanks to the staff at Scripps Mercy Hospital MICU and 11th Floor and San Diego Hospice.
