Kenneth S. Smith

YORK - Kenneth S. Smith, 89, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2005 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Grace M. (Rohrbaugh) Smith who died June 8, 1996.
Following cremation, there will be a memorial service for Mr. Smith at 10 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2005 at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, 12 N. Main St., Spring Grove with his interim pastor, the Rev. Janet W. Ray officiating. Burial will follow the service in Jefferson Cemetery with full military rites performed by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Irwin Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove.
Mr. Smith was born September 19, 1916 in Neimans, Codorus Twp., a son of the late Paul and Nettie (Swartz) Smith.
He retired in 1981 from Caterpillar, Inc. after 17 years of employment.
He was a member of Local #786 U.A.W., the Shiloh American Legion Post #791, the 13th Ward Political Club in York, the Codorus Valley Historical Society, and Boy Scouts of America Troop # 18. He also served as a Committeeman and Treasurer for the Viking Athletic Association in York.
Mr. Smith was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ in Spring Grove, where he served on the Church Consistory as an Elder and Deacon.
Ken was a 1933 graduate of the former Codorus Township High School in Glenville and a graduate of the Atlanta Ordinance School in Atlanta, GA. He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII, and proudly served his country as Sergeant in charge of Transportation, Provost Marshal Branch, in Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.
Mr. Smith will be sadly missed by two sons, Thomas K. Smith and his beloved wife Elaine, Michael J. Smith and his beloved wife Teresa, all of York; three grandchildren, Alexis, Sean, and Danielle, all of York; a brother, Clark Smith of Naples, FL; a sister, Ann Young of Wilmington, Delaware; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
