J. P. Hayward of six miles south of Keytesville brought suit against Thos. E. Mackay, administrator of the estate of Eliza J. Prewitt, to recover the value of a $50 coffin which the plaintiff claimed to have furnished for Mrs. Prewitt, but after hearing the testimony and the argument of counsel for the respective litigants, the jury returned a verdict for the defendant.

The second case was that of Mrs. Mary Hayward, wife of J. P. Hayward, who instituted proceedings against Public Administrator Mackay for the sum of $180, an amount the plaintiff stated was due her for boarding and taking care of her mother, Mrs. Eliza J. Prewitt, for 18 months at $10 a month during the latter part of Mrs. Prewitt's life. When the evidence had been offered and the argument of counsel made in the case, the jury retired, but they could not agree, standing seven for defendant and five for plaintiff. The case was continued until next Monday.
