Ben A. Porter was born at Herman, Minnesota on June 27, 1897 the son of Andrew and Edith Porter. He attended school and grew to manhood in Alexandria. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Samuelson and to this union two children were born. Mr. Porter served with the United States Army during World War I. Following the war he was employed by the Texas Border Patrol for a time and then returned to Alexandria where he was employed by the City of Alexandria and Douglas County. He was united in marriage to Sabina Lucas at Alexandria. Mrs. Porter preceded him in death. Mr. Porter was also employed by the Geneva Cemetery Association for many years.
Mr. Porter died Sunday, May 4, 1980 at the age of 82 years. He is survived by one son, Donald Porter of Minneapolis and one daughter Mrs. Doris Matthews of Albert Lea, Minnesota. Several grandchildren also survive. Besides his wife, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 9, 1980, 10:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria, with PresHarold Egli officiating. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery, Alexandria. Pallbearers were George McKay, David Benson, Dave Martin, Ernest Unruh, Robert Corcoran, and Joe Schildt.
