MILLERSBURG Howard "Jay" Wengerd, 81, of Millersburg, died Friday evening, Sept. 1, 2006, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, after a period of declining health. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Gray Ridge Community Fellowship, with Pastor Martin Mann officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg. The family suggests contributions be made to American Diabetes Association, 1815 W. Market St., Suite 108, Akron, 44313. "Jay" was born April 30, 1925, in Fryburg to Martin Van Buren and Sadie (Hamsher) Wengerd and married Lela Weaver on Dec. 19, 1944. She survives. He was owner/operator of Millersburg Oil, Inc., retiring in 1990, and was a member of Gray Ridge Community Fellowship. Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Richard (Connie) Wengerd of Killbuck, Ronald (Paula) Wengerd of New Jersey, Rene (Sheila) Wengerd, Rita (Jason) Aufrance and Rian (Candi) Wengerd, all of Millersburg, Ruth (Mike) Mannion of Aurora, Robert (Libby) Wengerd of Glenmont and Randal (Beth) Wengerd of Wooster; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mosella Snyder of Millersburg; and a brother, Ivan Wengerd of Indiana. An infant daughter, an infant brother, a brother, Harold Wengerd and a sister, Margaret Wengerd, died previously.
