Mrs. Virginia R. Galvan, 91, of 403 Waco, died Friday evening in a local hospital after a sudden illness.

She was born, reared and educated in Corpus Christi. She was a Music Teacher for many years. One of her students, Emilio Caceras, was recognized as one of the World's Greatest Jazz Violinist. She was the Church Organist at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 15 years prior to her marriage. She was preceded in her death by Rafael Galvan Sr. and her daughter Mrs. Arnold Gonzalez Sr.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Joe G. De La Vina; Edinburg, Texas; Mrs. Lee Martinez Sr., Mrs. John Prezas, Mrs. Luis Oliveira Sr. all of Corpus Christi, and Mrs. Charles Hinojosa, Santa Ana, California; four sons Rafael (Ralph) Galvan Jr., Sammy Galvan, Edward (Eddie) Galvan, Robert M. Galvan, all of Corpus Christi; one brother Justo Contreras, Corpus Christi; 28 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Maxwell P. Dunne Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Internment will follow on the Galvan Family Plot at the Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Edward Overton Galvan, Robert Galvan Jr, Sammie Galvan Jr, Arnold Gonzalez Jr, Michael Hoeltzel, Freddie Martinez, Luis Oliveira, Eddie Ramon, Lee Campbell, Frank Dixon, Leo Duran, Morris Kahan, Gabriel Lozano Sr., Jesus Pompa, Joe G. Rodriguez, Luis Wilmot.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers that donations be given to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in memory of Mrs. Galvan.
