Charles "Charlie" Egan age 79 of Toms River died Thursday September 22nd.

Charlie was born and raised in Jersey City moving to Toms River in 1958. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph R. C. Church, a member of the St. Joseph Council # 4969 Knights of Columbus, and a 4th Degree member of John D. McMahon Assembly #1926 Knights of Columbus all of Toms River.

He was an Army Korean War Veteran serving in Signal Corps. Charlie was the local grocery manager with the A & P, IGA and the produce market at the mini mall, who could be heard whistling while he worked. He also owned and managed the Sampson House apartments in Seaside Heights.

Charlie had a special gift of making people around him feel important. He always had a kind word, a ready smile, and a helping hand to everyone he met. Even after Charlie lost his ability to speak, write or walk due to complications of a stroke, he made more friends in the last 6 years of his life than most people make in a lifetime. We know he's telling jokes and making people smile in heaven.

He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Lucy "Dee" Egan, devoted father of Sue, Chuck, and Bob Egan and Devi Egan Hall, dear brother of Margaret "Peggy" Krupa, loving grandfather of 4 adoring grandchildren Taylor, Mackenzie, Chas and Bobby, also surviving are daughters in law Cathy (Fulton) Egan, Elizabeth (Fossella) Egan, and son in law John A. Hall, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Visiting will be Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Rd. Toms River. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 10 AM Monday at St. Joseph R. C. Church, Toms River. Burial will follow at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the American Stroke Association, 1 Union St., Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
