Blues Singer. She was born in Coldwater, Mississippi but her family move to Chicago, Illinois when she was seven. She began singing with gospel choirs in South Chicago. At the age of 14, she began singing blues. Her songs include: "I Don't Want No Man" and "Blues in the Year One-D-One". She was dubbed “The Shaker” for her trademark moving and shaking as she strutted across the stage. She became renowned for giving audiences a performance ranging from the sentimental to the sexy. She played with great musicians such as Magic Slim, Buddy Guy, The Aces, Junior Wells, Johnny Bernard, and Erwin Helfer. In 2003 she received the W.C. Handy (William Christopher Handy) Award nomination for traditional blues female artist of the year. She died of heart complications at the age of 62 while a resident in a nursing home.
