Minnesota. Doris grew up with twin brothers, Roy and Raymond, and sister Elsie Carlson.
Swedish was their first language, however, all learned to speak English proficiently.
After attending Morehead State College, Doris worked as a teacher in a one room school
house with children in grades K-12.
After marrying William Paskewitz, the family moved to Florida settling briefly in Ormond by
the Sea before moving to DeLand for more than 60 years.
After obtaining her master’s degree in education and various certifications, Doris became
a School Psychologist and Exceptional Student Education Coordinator for Volusia County
Schools. After retiring from VCS, she became Principal at First Presbyterian Church’s
School.
Throughout her career she wrote many educational grants for students with disabilities.
She received many State and County awards for her work with children and belonged to
many organizations. March, 2008, she received the Hero of DeLand award from the City
of DeLand.
Doris will always be remembered for willingness to give to others putting them before
herself. She tried to help anyone in need especially children. She always tried to look at
the positive. She loved her church, family, friends, teachers and always tried to display a
Christian attitude towards others. She was always quick to smile and never complaining
even during her last days.
Mrs. Paskewitz is preceded in death by her husband, William Chester Paskewitz and a
grandson, Nathan Kehrley.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Connie Erickson, Bev Kehrley, son,
Robert Paskewitz and grandchildren,
Chris Erickson (Lindsey), Chad Kehrley (Angela), Tara Strahan and Danielle Stevenson
(Jacob). Great grandchildren, Tabby Halcom, Raistlin Halcom, Liam Strahan, Lockland
Strahan, Aiden Kehrley, Oliver Erickson, Parker Spegal , Dana Kehrley, David Kehrley,
and Nora Kehrley.
