Henry Stevens was born in Elk Township, Athens County, Ohio the son of Zachariah and Anna Kendrick Stevens. Henry was a farmer and a stockman, living in conjunction with his mother and father, between Flora and Cisne IL. Tombstone states that he died October 28,1876, but the Stevens' Bible has his death on the 22 October 1876.

Henry was traveling during the period between his settlement of Coles county, IL in 1850 and his exit out of Athens County, Ohio. In the 1850 census, his father and mother were listed in Athens (now Vinton) County OH, but not Henry. In a land record, in 1844 it states Henry Stevens of Jackson County OH.

Henry "Stephens" appears in Coles county, IL on October 23, 1850 purchasing land from Nathan Ellington and his wife, Fanny M. Ellington. This land was described as follows:
76 acres E1/2 NW1/4 Sec 6 T12N R10E
40 acres NE1/4 SE1/4 Sec 6 T12N R10E
10 acres S. end W1/2 lot #1 NE1/4 of Sec 6 T 12N R10E
12 acres N1/2 SW1/4 SW1/4 Sec 32 T13N R10E
20 acres W1/2 SE1/4 NW1/4 Sec 32 T 13N R10E Total of 166 1/2 acres
for $1000-- listed in Book N page 51.

He married Anna Margaret Myers on April 24,1851 in Coles County, IL. Henry Stevens and his wife, Margaret Stevens, sold their Coles County land to Thomas Hamilton, warrantee deed on May 14, 1853 for $400 in book R page 58 described as N1/2 SW1/4 SW1/4 Sec 32 Twp 13 R 10E.

Henry Stevens (his signature) and Margaret "Stephens", his wife (her mark) sold to S. H. Mitchell via a warrantee deed on June 11, 1853 for $1900 in Book R 127, (Coles County) the following land description:
E1/2 NW1/4 Sec 6 T12N, R10E;
NE1/4 SE1/4 Sec 6, T12N, R 10E;
W1/2 NE Sec 6, T12N, R10E.

Henry Stevens sells to January Springer via a Warrantee Deed, on June 7, 1854 for $240 registered in Book S page 573 the following description of land:
SW1/4 SW1/4 Sec 35 T12N R9E.

Henry and Margaret "Stephens", his wife sold land to Zachariah Stephens on January 9, 1861 in Wayne county, IL. The land description was as follows:
SW1/4 NE1/4 Sec 28 Twp1N R7E,
SE1/4 NE1/4 Sec 21 Twp 1N R7E
NW1/4 NE1/4 Sec 21 Twp 1N R7E
NE1/4 SE1/4 Sec25 Twp 1N R7E

In 1865 Census of Wayne county, Illinois in Bedford Twp., Henry and Margaret had 3 boys under 10, and he is between 40 and 50, with no daughters, and Margaret was between 20-30.

Henry Stevens was on the Delinquent tax list for town lots in Cisne (lot #13 tax $15 due $1, April 22, 1875. In the newspaper, dated Nov 28, 1876- announced that Henry Stephens, dec. and Isaac Carson was the Administrator. The same in Dec 7, 1876.
