Joseph "Joe" Amburgey, 83, of Danville, passed away Saturday December 12, 2015 at his home. Surviving is his wife Shirley. Joseph was born December 4, 1932 in London, KY to the late Charles Clifford and Rachael Nantz Amburgey. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict.Joe was a farmer and retired employee of Southern States in Danville and Stanford. He was an avid sportsman and family oriented gentleman.Joe was past president of Wheaton, MD Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, The Retail Merchants Organization, Wheaton Coin Club, charter member of the Argyll Country Club, and the Glenmont Methodist Church where he served in numerous positions.Survivors include two sons: Stanley Keith Amburgey(Liz) of Mt. Pleasant S.C. and Tracy Lee Scott Amburgey (Carrie) of Richmond VA; a daughter Pamela Small(Greg) of Randleman N.C.; three sisters: Thelma (Reenie) Barringer of West Carrolton OH, Jewel Morgan of London KY, and Jessie Greer of Danville; and a brother Douglas Amburgey of Richmond KY.He was preceded in death by a brother R.C. Amburgey and a sister Judy Wagner.Appreciation and true thanks to full time caregivers Christi, Glenda, and Daphne as well as Linda and numerous part- timers including Eva & Liz.Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday December 17, 2015 at The Presbyterian Church of Danville.Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 PM at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Presbyterian Church of Danville Soups on Us Program.
