Robert was a member of a night fighting patrol engaging in a mission near the east bank of the Saimichon River when they ran into an ambush by the enemy. Two other soldiers on the patrol, Private Joseph Elphege Alberta Dupuis and Lance Corporal Joseph Gerard Armand Leblanc were killed in action and one soldier was wounded. Robert's body was never found.
Son of Arthur and Nativité R. Gendron of Donnacona, Québec. Brother of Jacques, Guy, Pierre, Claude, Claire and Edith.
He is also remembered on the Korean War Wall of Remembrance at Meadowvale Cemetery in Brampton, Ontario.
