When I got "Moose", he was a puppy mill rescue and had already had surgery on both patellas, because he and his brother were unable to walk. Moose was struggling to adapt, so fearful, it was unbelievable. My friends at Keeshond Lovers United rescue, assured me he needed a friend. They told me about Dixie and when I went to the Douglas County Humane Society in Omaha, the lady in line just in front of me was there to adopt her also! If you've ever seen how large the DHS facility is, you'd realize the odds. We spoke and she was there through KLU also! She had a beauty with her and said I could have Dixie, she had just wanted to save her. Happy Day! DHS assured me she was healthy and spayed, however both turned out to be so wrong. I brought the little girl home to Moose, and WOW, what a God-send she was to my shy baby boy. Doodle came to her fur ever home with us 18 August 2012 and we tearfully let her go 29 March 2013. That was the shortest amount of time I've ever had a rescue. She was so good to teach Moose the ropes. She put up with spaying, surgeries and tons of love from Moose and me. When they came into the house after trips outside, Dixie would whirl in circles while I scratched her back. Moose soon picked up on that practice and then I had two twirling fuzzy butts! Sadly, she had to leave us much, much too soon. We missed her horribly, so empty without the little cutie patootie. I wish I'd gotten her as a puppy, as I wish with all my rescues. I'd never have let her have puppies, thus no mammary cancer, and she might still be here with me today. After Dixie left us, I once said to Moose, "Where's Dixie Doodle?". He looked so dismayed (I did that only once), I knew we would have to get another friend for him. He really was lost without our sweet little girl. So began the next Keesie saga with "Chewy", my Velcro dog!!
