Obituary, Medina County Gazette, Thursday, 2 Nov 1899, pg 8 JESSE STODDARD: Jesse Stoddard, was born in Litchfield, CT, 29 March 1818, and with his parents came to Medina in 1824, and has lived in Medina Township ever since, excepting about two years residence in Hinckley. He married Sybil E. Bishop, 15 Jan 1840. He died 30 Oct 1899. He was the father of five children, Samuel, Sherman, Freeman, George, and Carrie. His oldest son, Samuel, gave his life for his country in the war of 1861, and Sherman died in 1865. The others are living nearby and were present at his death. His wife with whom he has lived nearly 60 years is comfortably provided for in his will, and is blessed with the love and companionship of her children. One remarkable fact showing the domestic happiness of Mr. Stoddard and his wife was that in all their married life of nearly 60 years, only three nights were passed that they did not sleep beneath the same roof.
